Rumored Star Wars 7 Character and Cameos

So, here's something that female fans are going to be thrilled about - it seems that Benedict Cumberbacth shot a cameo appearance last week and you'll have a chance to get short glimpse of him in the upcoming movie. Along with this it was leaked that Warwick Davis will be playing the role of a cantina musician who'll get into some pretty nasty fight. Apparently, we'll see a bit of violence and gore in this scene where, most notably, an alien played by Simon Pegg will lose an arm. Ouch, pretty nasty - I though Disney was planning a family-friendly movie? Then again, his arm will probably just grow back and everyone will pitch in some funny lines.

Star Wars 7 Will Have Less CGI and More 'Practical' Effects

Computer generated graphics are a very controversial topic when it comes to the upcoming Star Wars 7 movie and the new trilogy as a whole. While new CGI technology could provide us with an amazing experience in theaters it could also ruin the upcoming movie and a lot of Star Wars fans confronted the production team with these concerns. The idea is that more 'practical' effects will look better and allow the movie "to age better" into the future. For example, the original trilogy didn't feature that much CGI and it looks pretty good even today.

The Star Wars 7 staff has taken the fans concerns into consideration and decided come out with a statement regarding the issue. We had a chance to hear what writer/director Rian Johnson has to say on the topic and we were quite satisfied!

Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie Join Star Wars 7 Crew

Star Wars was often criticized for the lack of female characters in the movies and they were about to get a lot of negative comments for Episode VII as well, considering that the only female actors on the team are Carrie Fisher and Daisy Ridley. However, this will no longer be the case as Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has recently announced that Oscar-awarded actress Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie will be joining the Star Wars 7 team. Let's dig into the news and see just who these lovely ladies are.

Star Wars 7 Comic-Con Appearance Cancelled; You Can Still Catch a Bit of "Rebels"

If you were hoping to see some previews of Star Wars 7 at Comic-Con this year then these dreams have just sunk into deep, icy-cold water. There will be no trailers or crew members (on official duty at least) at this year's Comic-Con and, to be honest, this was to be expected. Considering that J.J. Abrams and the crew are knee-deep in the production phase in Pinewood Studios in London, it was a very unlikely though to expect them in San Diego this month. So, what Star Wars-related goodies can you expect at Comic-Con this year?

Kevin Smith visits Star Wars 7 Set; Leaves in Tears

Clerks director and long-time Star Wars fans Kevin Smith visited the Star Wars Episode 7 set today and it seems that the experience was quite moving. Namely, he left the set in tears (of joy) saying that "the Force is with this movie". He posted a photo of himself in this emotional state via Instagram and you can see it bellow:

Will Star Wars 7 Reach 3 Billion Dollars in Revenue?

Without a shred of doubt we can easily say that Star Wars Episode 7 is one of the most anticipated franchise reboots. Regardless of the movie being good or bad, we can be fairly sure that it will make a lot of money. But just how much money can Episode VII really earn? There have been a lot of speculations and analysis on this issue and the Guardian recently argued that SW7 might be the first movie to reach 3 billion dollars. Currently, the record is held by Cameroon's movie Avatar which received a worldwide gross of $2,782,275,172. In perspective, The Phantom Menace has earned a gross income of $1,027,044,677 making it the most commercially successful Star Wars movie (but it is still the worst in my book).

So, what's with these high expectations for the new movie? Why are so many people assuming that it will earn that much money? Well, there's probably a handful of reasons:

Star Wars Episode VII Cast Finally Revealed

Dear Star Wars fans, the cast for the new Star Wars movie has (finally) been revealed! In the upcoming movie you will have the pleasure (or rather, it will hopefully be a pleasure) to see John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. These actors will join the original cast members (Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker) in the latest installment of the Star Wars series.

Some of the new faces
While we have been given a lot of speculations regarding the new movie, it is still only known as Star Wars Episode 7. However, now that the cast has been reveled along with the estimated launch date, information will probably flow a lot quicker. Launch date? - I head you asking. Yes, it is coming a lot closer actually and has been set for the 18th of December 2015.

Disney and Lucasfilm made their announcement regarding these events on Tuesday, as casting speculations have run wild for months. They finally decided to give a green light to J.J. Abrams and the actors to go out to the public and announce the new. Regarding this, J.J. Abrams said:
“We are so excited to finally share the cast of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII.’ It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

Among the new actors, the most unusual name is Daisy Ridley who nobody has heard of thus far. As such it is very unclear whom Ridley will play, but sources have always said the children of Solo and Princess Leia would play a part in the film and as such Ridley could possibly play their daughter. Since the plot of the movie will be set 30 years after the Return of the Jedi miss Daisy has fits into the age group to be the child of Han and Leia.

Star Wars 7 News Roundup: The Budget, the Actors & the Set

Today was an important day in the Star Wars timeline as the shooting of the seventh Star Wars film started today. In truth it was a kind of surprise when Disney's head honcho Alan Horn's recent confirmed for The Hollywood Reporter that filming had begun on Star Wars: Episode VII. Even by the tight-lipped standards of this notoriously secretive production, getting filming underway without anyone noticing was quite an achievement.

Nevertheless, despite all efforts to keep details a mystery since Disney announced its desire to resurrect the franchise following its $4bn purchase of Lucasfilm last year, some titbits have managed to creep through. Here are a few things we know, alongside a healthy smattering of rumor, hearsay and tittle-tattle.

The most interesting new of the week though is the first speculations around the budget of the movie. Everyone is sure that Disney can feel free to invest as much as they want because this has to be one of the safest investments in history. Besides, you have to be pretty horrible to mess up a franchise like this so much that you cannot even pay off the initial budget. Rumors suggest that the budget will be around $200 million. In contrast the latest Disney movie "Frozen" had a budget of $150 million, while the previous movie (Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith) had a budget of $113 million.
