Star Wars 7 and future movies release date leaked (+Boba Fett Spin-Off)!

So, the Star Wars 7 release date has apparently leaked - as such, today's news is a lot more exciting than the regular gossip that we've been receiving lately so buckle up and get ready for a ride! Not only did we get some nice info about Star Wars Episode VII, but we also have information about Star Wars 8 and 9, as well as the spin-off movie about Boba Fett and an animated series called "Rebels"!

Boba Fett Movie Release Date 2016
It seems that a lot of new movies are coming our way!
Right off the bat you are wondering who is the source of these awesome news? Well it's SlashGear via a website called The Inquisitr. Hmm, not that inspiring but hey we'll take what we can find, besides the current rumors actually go well with some news that we've been getting over the past year.

So, here's the short version if you don't want to read the whole article:

  •  This September we will see the new animated TV show Rebels, which we wrote about a long time ago in a blog post far, far away.
  • The news was leaked by accident via the toy company Hasbro which is planning a series of toys and merchandise for the upcoming movies.
  • The Star Wars 7 release date is (still) set for December 18, 2015. One of the rumored titles was "The Ancient Fear" but this is yet to be confirmed. We are quite happy to just call it SW Episode VII though.
  • In 2016 a new spin off movie about Boba Fett is going to be release and we know a bit about the staff already (see bellow)
  • In 2017 we can expect to see Star Wars Episode 8
  • In 2018 a stand-alone spin-off called "Solo" is expected to be released. It is likely that this is a movie about Han Solo, but we know very little about it.
  • In 2019 the final part of the new trilogy, Episode 9, will be released.
  • In 2020 the final spin off movie called "Red Five" will hit theaters. If your memory has faded a bit, we remind you that this was Luke Skywalker's call sign during the Battle of Yavin back in Star Wars: A New Hope

Milking the Money Cow

So, that's:
  • Three movies (a new trilogy)
  • One spin-off animated series
  • Three spin-off movies that are a story of their own
Ah, where to begin? This is all supposed to happen in 6 years, which means one per year. Sounds cool, except it isn't. If this information is true then this really sounds like Disney is milking the "money cow" right now. Granted, G. Lucas did this on his own, but he was, admittedly, a lot more subtle with it. And what about the quality? Will it suffer greatly because of these tight deadlines?

Star Wars Cash Cow

I just hope they don't do something stupid such as "Star Wars Episode 9, part 1 out of 2" in the end. That would really make me not even want to watch the movie because that would be a really, really horrible way to cash-in on a franchise that is already making enough money to support all these endeavors.

Well, at least you know the release dates...

On the Bright Side

These spin-off movies and the animated series won't have much to do with the new trilogy. Harrison Ford and Mark Hamil probably won't appear in SW8 or 9 so their role in the trilogy will likely be over rather quickly. Since they will, no doubt, be the stars of these spin-offs that means that the development of these movies probably won't impact the trilogy itself. There is also a chance that these movies end up just being documentaries that are only targeted to the core audience - the fans of the series.
Temuera Morrison Boba Fett

On the other hand we have this new movie that centers on the bounty hunter Boba Fett, and according to The Inquisitr (without a completely solid source), the main role here will be played by Temuera Morrison. As a reminder, this is the guy who played Jango Fett in Star Wars Episode II so we can easily say that he fits the bill here. On the other hand, we’re also to understand that Godzilla 2014 writer Gareth Edwards is involved in Boba Fett. He’ll be a writer, more than likely, and has spoken very little of the film thus far.
