Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently announced that the Star Wars franchise is coming back to the UK where the movie will be made! All previous six movies were made mostly in Britain and this is where Star Wars' cinematic roots are. Kathleen is hopping that the new movies will be able to draw inspiration from the original trilogy and that this move will only bring good to the new series. The British media are already saying that the Force is strong with Britain's film industry which is very true it seems.
Will the new Star Wars VII movie be a success? |
Kathleen has actually discussed the new movie quite a bit, although we haven't really heard any fresh Star Wars 7 news exactly. She announced that the production will actually begin next year and that the movie will be out somewhere in 2015. So far we can only safely say that the movie will be directed by J.J. Abrams and that Michael Arndt will be writing the screenplay. We have already expressed our concerns over Arndt doing the writing part as he has only created cartoons lately and we don't want Star Wars 7 to be a Disney fairytale in any regard! We are hopping that Gorge Lucas, who is the creative consultant, will not allow this to happen.
But back to the original Star Wars 7 news report shall we? Kathleen Kennedy also made a statment regarding the recent announcement:
"We've devoted serious time and attention to revisiting the origins of Star Wars as inspiration for our process on the new movie, and I'm thrilled that returning to the UK for production and utilizing the incredible talent there can be a part of that."
Parts of the previous movies were shot in studios steeped in British cinematic history, including Elstree, Shepperton, Leavesden, Ealing and Pinewood Studios. It is expected that the new Star Wars production crew will be revisiting these locations.
The cast is unknown for the time being, but it seems that the legendary trio will indeed be coming back to the big screen! Harrison Ford is, of course, still refusing to talk about the new movie, but we are sure that he will not miss an opportunity to put on the boots of Han Solo again.
